This module aims to develop your understanding of the nature and complexities of learning and the implications for lifelong education. You will be made aware of some of the historic and contemporary debates about learning and will be required to explore different perspectives and approaches.
1. Explore and analyse psychological, social and environmental aspects of learning in relation to relevant theories of learning
2. Interrogate learning as a complex activity
3. Analyse and evaluate the relationship between the nature of learning and the process of teaching and supporting learning.
On successful completion of the module students should be able to:
1. Evaluate a range of concepts and theories of learning
2. Analyse learning as a complex activity
3. Analyse psychological, social and environmental factors which affect learning
4. Apply concepts and theories of learning to own experience and in relation to different learners and contexts
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Evaluate different arguments and perspectives, using supporting evidence to form opinions, arguments, theories and ideas. (Academic)

There will be ongoing monitoring of student progress throughout the module via student engagement in and contributions to lecture and seminars, and via formative feedback on reflective writing and assignment drafts. There will also be tutorials to monitor progress. Access to tutors is always available via e-mail and telephone.
