This module is aimed at you if you are a student interested in understanding how the world of work is changing, how that might impact on you as an individual and how to maximise your chances of success in the employment market. We have small class sizes for this module to give you maximum opportinity for engagement.
This module will enable students to gain an understanding of the changing world of work, and to reflect on, and start to plan, their own career development.
- how to work in a team effectively
At the end of this module students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
-the changing world of work
-processes of reflection on their own experiences of work
-forward planning for their own employment including analysis of the skills that they will need
-skills required for the clear and accurate communication of ideas
Employment awareness
Writing skills
Presentation skills
Self-promotion
Career planning
Ethical issues in the workplace
Team working
The module will cover:
- Changing patterns of business and employment (eg. social enterprise, entrepreneurship, multiple careers etc)
- What employers look for
- Current issues in employment/ unemployment (eg. Technology, politics, global influences, economy, changing markets, social issues)
- Ethical issues in the workplace
-Presentation skills and team-work training
-Writing skills – including reflection
Input from careers advisors and talks from employers/ employees/ businesses will be critical to this module.
