Module summary

This module consolidates knowledge of intermediate Italian and explores more difficult structures and vocabulary. It will take students up to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The module places particular emphasis on the development and application of written and oral interaction in a variety of contexts.

Objectives

This is a module for students with A or AS Level Italian or equivalent. It will reinforce basic grammatical structures and introduce more complex ones. It will also enable students to build up a broad vocabulary in a variety of specialised areas. Student are expected to acquire a level of discursive and functional competence to allow them to communicate in different situations both in writing and speaking.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

1. Consolidate knowledge of basic Italian grammar and vocabulary

2. Explore more difficult grammar structures and specialised vocabulary

3. Communicate intelligibly in spoken Italian on everyday topics, and on more advanced subjects

4. Understand the main ideas of a text in Italian on both concrete and abstract topics

5. Produce different types of texts in Italian in a variety of contexts, in a clear and purposeful manner with a level of accuracy that allows successful communication with other speakers

Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:

6. Ability to (both within verbal and written communication) be clear, concise and focused up to a B1 level in Italian language, being able to tailor their message for the audience and listening to the views of others.

7. Ability to demonstrate awareness and understanding of self and others including different cultures;

8. Developing autonomous learning skills on language learning
