Pre-requisite qualifications

Satisfactory completion of one of the following programmes at level 2: BA History   BA International History and Politics BA Economics & History   BA English & History   BA History & Sociology   Must have an average of 60 from the previous academic year, or has an average of 57-59.9 and has the support of their Parent School to apply.

Module summary

This module allows students the opportunity to study abroad for a year at a host University approved by the School of History. You may select preferred institutions and countries after liaising with the module convenor for the year abroad. The module provides you with an excellent opportunity to sample a different academic community as well as experiencing the social and cultural differences of the host city and country.

Objectives

The module aims to help you to broaden your subject-specific knowledge relating to History to gain experience of living and studying within a different social and cultural environment. The actual experience of studying during the year abroad will vary widely from one student to another, dependent on the University attended and the individual host city and country and will normally comprise a combination of taught courses in History, other subjects, and language training where relevant. The School’s Year Abroad Coordinator will need to approve the selection of modules you will take during your year abroad.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Your Year Abroad year will be monitored by a tutor/supervisor within the host University to ensure that it is a rewarding and worthwhile experience for you. The Study Abroad Coordinator in History monitors progress overall through regular email contact. You will be able to schedule an individual meeting with the Study Abroad Coordinator to discuss the reflective essay.
