Module summary

This module allows students to undertake an independent or collaborative project (potentially with an outside partner) on a topic of their choosing. It further develops their skills in project design, information collection and analysis, and report writing. Outputs might include new datasets, computer programmes, other technologies, or management approaches to an identified problem.

Objectives

Through undertaking a capstone project, students will:

- Develop a project idea of their own initiative or take forward one proposed by a member of staff.

- Manage a project to deliver novel outcomes.

- Apply advanced techniques from across their degree to address a real challenge.

- Produce outcomes of genuine use to others in the university or outside organisations.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

Identify an important contemporary geographical problem.

Design an approach to address the identified problem.

Apply an advanced range of laboratory, geospatial, numerical, field, or computational skills as appropriate for the research.

Effectively communicate the outcomes of the work.
