Good performance at Levels 1 and 2 (average of 60 or just below). Students will also be encouraged to take a pre-sessional intensive language course in the host country.
This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module gives students the opportunity to:
- demonstrate their ability to cope with a significant change in their environment and adapt to a new culture;
- broaden their understanding and knowledge of their subject specialisms;
- gain a deeper understanding of the country in which they are studying;
- face the linguistic (where applicable), intellectual and psychological challenges of living in another country;
- develop transferable skills in openness and sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and culture.
To gain a deeper understanding of the country in which they are studying; improve their foreign language skills (in exchanges where the language is not English); benefit from academic study in an intellectual environment different from the 'home' environment; develop transferrable skills in openness and sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and culture.
Qualities and transferable skills necessary for working in another academic system and living in another country.
Enhanced practical language skills, both written and oral, in some cases in a language other than English, as required by demands of study in another country.
To be arranged with the host institution, in accordance with the English Year Abroad Learning Contract and subject to the approval of the School of English. The study will normally comprise a combination of taught modules in the appropriate discipline and/or allied subject(s) chosen to complement the Leeds degree programme; up to 40% of the credits taken may relate to the language and/or culture of the host country.
