Pre-requisite qualifications

Grade B at 'A' Level in English Language or Literature or equivalent and must have successfully completed at least one module (language or literature) in the School of English.

This module is approved as an Elective

Objectives

To examine ways in which the material of the Arthurian legend has been exploited by writers from the 12th to the 15th centuries. A range of English, French, Welsh and Latin texts will be studied, where necessary in translation.

Syllabus

Geoffrey of Monmouth, History of the Kings of Britain; The Mabinogion; Chritien de Troyes, Arthurian Romances; the works of Sir Thomas Malory.

Teaching Methods

Teaching will be through weekly seminars (10 x 1 hour) plus up to 5 additional hours (consisting of lectures and plenary discussion sessions).
