This module allows you to develop your English writing skills in a creative, collaborative environment. You will learn how to adapt your writing for a range of genres. You will actively participate in several short writing processes, producing a portfolio of writing. You will participate in peer feedback as part of your writing processes, giving you the opportunity to learn with and from others.
Students will analyse and explore a range of different texts, focusing on different styles, audiences and purposes. Using this knowledge of register, they will produce their own texts in a collaborative writing environment that helps students to:
· Develop understanding of genre in written communication.
· Develop understanding of the effect that audience and purpose has on language.
· Develop control and fluency of vocabulary and grammar in English written communication.
· Use self-directed and collaborative reflection as part of the writing process.
On successful completion of the module, students should:
1. Produce short written texts in a range of genres.
2. Adapt language and style in written communication according to the purpose and audience of the genre.
3. Use knowledge of genre to critique others’ writing and reflect on the effectiveness of one’s own writing.
4. Reflection: participate in reflective practice and peer feedback processes.
5. Interpersonal skills: work collaboratively to generate ideas, give and receive feedback during the writing process

Students produce short written texts throughout the semester which are commented on by other students as part of guided feedback processes. The teacher will give feedback on final drafts, commenting on development made and future areas for improvement.
Students are offered teacher feedback during the writing process by attending office hours.
