On this module, you will be developing your ability to think about an area of investigation from a range of perspectives and come to your own conclusions. You will develop your understanding of, and ability to use academic English in both written and spoken communication. You will focus on synthesising secondary evidence and learn about the differences between spoken and written academic discourse while producing a portfolio of work.
This module provides you with the opportunity to meet the language requirements of your future academic programme and explore linguistic and literacy skills to a level that will enable you to communicate competently within the UK academic context. The module offers the opportunity to develop an awareness and understanding of the culture, context and discourse of academic study in UK Higher Education.
1. Recognise and apply knowledge of English academic literacy, language and skills required in your future degree programmes.
2. Demonstrate audience and discourse awareness, including an understanding of typical genres in your own discipline.
