Module summary

This module explores inclusive education in relation to various educational contexts and stakeholders. You will consider how particular groups of learners can become marginalised, categorised and stereotyped and the implications of this for education and broader society. You will examine the relationship between special educational needs and disability, and evaluate current strategies which aim to promote more inclusive practices.

Objectives

- To develop the ability to critically analyse and understand the complexities of inclusive education

- To enable the exploration of inclusive education in formal and informal settings.

- To enable the exploration of factors which might marginalise learners and hinder inclusion.

- To develop understanding of the relationships between special educational needs, disability, marginalisation, and inclusion.

- To enable the exploration of inclusive practices and strategies

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, you should be able to:

1. Consider inclusive education principles, issues, and challenges in formal or informal education settings

2. Consider challenges to inclusive education faced by learners with diverse needs, special education needs, disabilities, and other forms of marginalisation

3. Evaluate strategies and design considerations to foster inclusive practice

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

A formal formative assessment opportunity will be provided for the summative assessment task, specifically aligned pedagogically with that task. As part of this, each student will receive feedback designed to support the development of knowledge and skills that will be assessed in the summative task.
