Module summary

In this module students will be introduced to different approaches to managing children’s behaviour in primary classrooms. Underpinning theories relating to classroom behaviour and learning will be covered, along with professional guidance for teachers and practical classroom strategies. 

Objectives

To ensure that students

Understand key theories relating to children’s behaviour

Can identify key theories in professional guidance and policy

Know about different approaches taken in primary schools to manage behaviour

Are familiar with the expectations of Teachers Standard 7

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will be able to:

Describe and recognise different theories of children’s behaviour

Show understanding of national and school policy guidance about behaviour

Demonstrate knowledge of Teachers Standard 7 ‘Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment’

Analyse professional documents relating to children’s behaviour

Demonstrate critical thinking in relation to children’s behaviour

Reflect on school policy and practice around children’s behaviour

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

A formal formative assessment opportunity will be provided for the summative assessment task, specifically aligned pedagogically with that task. As part of this, each student will receive feedback designed to support the development of knowledge and skills that will be assessed in the summative task.
