Module summary

This module provides the foundational subject knowledge required for the core subjects in the primary curriculum, English, mathematics and science and for the foundation subjects: history, geography, art and design, computing, design and technology, music and modern foreign languages.

Objectives

Students will develop confidence in their own knowledge, address any gaps in their own knowledge and identify for their own development in across all the subjects in the primary curriculum. They will be able to clearly explain key elements to others.

Learning outcomes


On successful completion of the module students will be able to:

Identify and explain key elements of the English language required to teach in primary schools.

Identify and explain key mathematical concepts for primary school children

Identify and explain key scientific topics for primary school children

Define the foundation subjects in the primary curriculum and evaluate their own subject knowledge strengths and areas for development

Demonstrate understanding of the requirements of Teacher’s Standard 3 ‘Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge’

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

A formal formative assessment opportunity will be provided for the summative assessment task, specifically aligned pedagogically with that task. As part of this, each student will receive feedback designed to support the development of knowledge and skills that will be assessed in the summative task.
