EAST2030 | Chinese Language Skills – 2A |
This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module is a comprehensive course of upper-intermediate language skills. The module aims to improve students' practical language skills through intensive and extensive readings, writings, translation/interpretation between Chinese and English, listening comprehension and interpersonal communication. Topics covered may include literature, business, tourism, education and other social-cultural issues.
On completion of this module, students should have developed an enlarged range of vocabulary, grammatical structures, idioms and collocations and be able to use them appropriately in different contexts; to read and understand original modern Chinese texts of various styles; to translate and interpret between English and Chinese; to understand everyday spoken Chinese on a wider range of topics including more complex social and cultural issues; and to use Chinese more fluently and naturally in a variety of spoken and written discourse contexts. In conjunction with the pre-requisite EAST2015, the modules prepare students for advanced language levels which are essential to their Level 3 study, future career and ability to act as cross-cultural intermediaries.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
