This module is for those who have passed EAST1460 Intermediate Chinese (1) or equivalent. It aims to build on previously acquired language to further develop both language skill and cultural literacy. The module covers themes such as popular culture, social change, cultural traditions and politics and history, introducing useful vocabulary, speech patterns and idiosyncratic language usage.
The module aims to continue Chinese language training, building on EAST1460 Intermediate Chinese (1) or equivalent language skills, so as to develop and refine students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The module aims to incorporate more complex grammar structures, texts, and authentic materials to enable students to increase their accuracy and proficiency in both productive and receptive skills.
On successful completion of the module you will be able to:
1. Read and write using simplified Chinese characters covered in class, with the ability to recognise these characters in their traditional form.
2. Respond to texts on a variety of topics, correctly applying the fundamentals of Chinese grammar.
3. Communicate more fluently in structured situations, demonstrating improved accuracy in grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary and showing awareness of context-specific language constraints.
4. Produce translations which reflect the cultural context.

6. Demonstrate intercultural understanding through recognition of different Sinophone cultural contexts
