This module is approved as a discovery module
This module is for those who have passed EAST1010 Basic Chinese 1 and EAST1020 Basic Chinese 2, or equivalent such as post HSK 3-4, MEP, A-level or other school qualification, subject to placement test. It aims to provide a solid foundation in Chinese lower intermediate grammar, vocabulary and writing skills, develops translation skills and enhances the use of Chinese language in a cultural context.
To continue Chinese language training, building on level-one modules (or equivalent foundation skills) so as to provide a solid grounding in lower intermediate Chinese grammar through further development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and through the introduction of foundational skills in translation.
On successful completion of the module you will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Read and write the simplified Chinese characters covered in class, with the ability to recognise these characters in their traditional form.
2. Correctly apply the fundamentals of Chinese grammar
3. Engage in oral communication with increasing ease within structured or predictable situations, showcasing improved grammatical, phonological, and lexical accuracy.
4. Read and respond to texts on a variety of non-specialist subjects.
5. Generate structured pieces of writing on selected topics, demonstrating grammatical accuracy and a broad vocabulary.
