This intensive Japanese language module is suitable for complete beginners, as well as those who have limited knowledge of the language. It aims to help students to improve all four basic skills in a balanced way through lectures and practicals. Students will be engaged in an interactive and communicative learning environment.
This module is designed for students who have limited or no previous exposure to Japanese. The objective of the module is to help students build a solid foundation of the four basic skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing in an interactive and communicative learning environment.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Recognise and write the hiragana and katakana scripts, in addition to basic kanji.
2. Apply essential features of Japanese grammar, both orally and in writing, utilising the introduced structures.
3. Comprehend passages on everyday topics written in Japanese or presented in recorded audios that have been introduced during the course.
4. Engage in culturally appropriate conversations using standard Japanese pronunciation and produce simple, structured pieces of writing about basic everyday topics in Japanese.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
5. Effective organisation of time and independent work consolidating material covered in class;
6. Proficient use of digital resources for a range of language learning tasks;
7. Successful adoption of proactive language learning strategies.
