This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module is designed to provide you with opportunities to develop your colour design abilities. It will allow you to develop theoretical colour knowledge related to colour design and forecasting. This will give you the ability to utilise and evaluate original colour research with reference to real design scenarios. Practical workshops will facilitate a range of creative colour design challenges associated with your programme of study. Access to technical colour evaluation devices and professional colour assessment equipment will be provided to support a critical understanding of how colour concepts are accurately communicated across relevant industry supply chains. Please note this is an optional module and runs subject to enrolments. If a low number of students choose this module, then the module may not run and you may be asked to choose another module
The primary aim of the module is to support the transition from conceptual experimentation to informed and measured rational approaches to colour design-judgments and creative decision-making. The objectives are to:
1) provide students with key digital colour design skills to support a range of design approaches.
2) introduce appropriate theoretical and technical knowledge with which to systematically assess colour aesthetics and colourways alongside colour intended functionality.
3) Develop an ability to recognise and critically position creative colour opportunities balanced against the constraints of practical colour application.
Learning opportunities are provided through practical workshops exploring a range of digital software and hardware.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
LO1 Employ a range of creative colour techniques to develop rational design approaches.
LO2 Apply knowledge of technical and theoretical colour principles to inform colour decision making.
LO3 Critically assess aesthetic and functional qualities and performance of colour outcomes designed for products.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
LO4 Utilise a range of appropriate digital colour skills and techniques.
LO5 Apply effective communication skills in a range of appropriate formats.
Details of the syllabus will be provided on the Minerva organisation (or equivalent) for the module
