Module summary

This module focuses on three main areas: exposure to interactive and experience-based projects, core principles of interactivity, and skills for planning and designing experiences. Through hands-on activities, you will explore the creative potential of various technologies and various design production techniques while engaging with foundational interaction principles that contextualize your work.

Objectives

This module aims to build on and deepen the design knowledge and skills students developed in L1. Its primary goal is to have students think beyond conventional media, emphasizing interactive formats while encouraging exploration and innovation within various technologies.

The objectives are to:

1) Introduce foundational principles of interactivity to help students understand key concepts that shape user interactions.
2) Expand students' exposure to diverse interactive and experience-based technologies across various design projects to create an understanding of how these technologies are applied in real-world contexts
3) Develop students' practical skills in planning, designing, and executing design experiences.

Learning activities are grouped as lectures, practicals and online feedback sessions. Objective 1 will be addressed through a series of lectures that introduce and explore the foundational principles of interactivity, helping students understand key concepts in design interactions. Objective 2 will be achieved through a combination of lectures and practicals. While lectures will expose students to real-world examples of interactive and experience-based technologies, practicals will enable them to apply and integrate these insights into their own projects. Objective 3 will be supported by online feedback sessions that provide checkpoints for project progress. These sessions will guide students as they develop practical skills in planning, designing, and executing their projects.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

1. Distinguish foundational principles of interactivity by discussing key concepts in interaction design
2. Identify and describe diverse interactive and experience-based technologies
3. Demonstrate the ability to plan and design experiences
4. Develop interactive prototypes that demonstrate foundational principles of interactivity

Skills Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:

5. Communicate ideas effectively in written, visual and other formats to industry standards
6. Develop innovative ideas through creative and analytical thinking.
