Module summary

This module considers the changing dynamics of the fashion system driven by the pressure for greater sustainability. The module will introduce the fashion system, and will explore sustainability theories and concepts as they apply to fashion by considering the perspectives of different stakeholders within the system.

Objectives

The aim of the module is to introduce key concepts of sustainability as they apply to the global fashion system. This is achieved by exploring the role and the impact of different stakeholders, which includes brands, suppliers, government, consumers and individuals. Through the use of lectures, seminars and presentations the course will explore how students could as professionals working in future graduate roles influence the sustainability of the system.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Recognise and reflect upon the broad definitions of sustainability in a context of the fashion system
2. Identify environmental and ethical issues associated with the fashion industry.
3. Examine the factors driving the need for a sustainable fashion system
4. Identify the interactions between sustainability, business, the consumer and society.

Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
5. Apply effective written/visual/other communication skills to present ideas.
6. Analyse qualitative and quantitative research effectively
