Do you want a head start when you apply for summer or industrial year placement? Want to increase your awareness of your own skills/interests and personal characteristics so that you can impress a future employer? Do you want help deciding whether to go into employment or stay in academia? This is a practical and highly participative module with local employer involvement run by the university's professional Careers Consultants. Assessments are continual, relevant and useful with no exams. To do this module you don't need any previous experience or special skills. To meet the learning outcomes no student will be permitted to join the module after the end of week two.
On completion of this module, students should:
- have developed a clearer picture of their own skills, interests and personal characteristics in relation to careers;
- understand what they need to do to develop their employability and be aware of the resources, support and opportunities available to do this;
- understand what they need to do to compete effectively in the job market;
- have produced a CV.

78 hours of total reading time, lecture research time, post workshop completion of learning log; research and preparation of assignments.
Students will be encouraged to make full use of the Careers Centre facilities to aide their progress during the course of the module. Any further issues would be addressed during the interactive workshop sessions.
