On completion of this module students will have acquired a proficiency in multimedia reporting and key production techniques and skills, working to a deadline similar to professional broadcasting output.
This modules requires students to analyse news broadcast genres and to gain production expertise in multimedia news output .
The module aims
1) To develop the skills to produce news programmes in a multimedia communications environment
2) To engage in the legal, ethical, and governance framework of multi news output,
3) To analyse the creative and editorial process required for the production of multimedia news, including the role of audience participation, viewer response and User Generated Content
4) To provide students with comprehensive instruction on radio and TV reporting and news production skills.
5) To enable students to understand the principles of Online journalism , and the employment of social media and multimedia platform devices
On completion of the module students should be able to:
1. Produce news content to a clear brief across multiple media platforms;
2. Demonstrate broadcast standard voice and presentation skills in the outputting of news programmes;
3. Work both individually and in a team, demonstrating and understanding of the live news production process;
4. Make and justify editorial decisions in the context of live news production;
This module is part of the Broadcast Journalism Training Council accreditation for the programme, and develops practice led multimedia journalism skills.
This module is an intensive, practical insight into Multimedia news and the decision making processes required for programme output. Students will be divided into news teams, and each team is responsible for developing a TV or radio programme/podcast, and associated Online/social medianews output.
They will be required to demonstrate a proficiency in dealing with breaking news and further their skills in analysing how a story can be developed through different multimedia news treatments.
The students will be required to write news output which will demonstrate;
- a competence in the operational aspects of multimedia news production..
- the ability to engage in the route from research to the editing of a news story in this genre.
- the ability to engage in the editorial and production decision making process for a range of programme formats.
- the skills required to devise a programme running order to a strict deadline and to a specific length.

Three formative practice multi media news production sessions are held followed by six assessed newsdays.

Students are assigned an individual task within a TV or radio programme/podcast or produce associated online and social media news output. They select evidence of work across all multimedia disciplines for three portfolio submissions.
