This module is not approved as a discovery module
Students on this course undertake self-directed study under academic supervision as part of a group in the production of a short film intended as an original piece of work for public viewing. Following an introductory lecture, teaching will take the form of regular supervision meetings to support the project production process including work-in-progress meetings leading up to the submission of a completed project. A substantial piece of reflective, analytical work will be produced in relation to the production, where the project will be critically evaluated. Please note this is an optional module and runs subject to enrolments. If a low number of students choose this module, then the module may not run and you may be asked to choose another module.
This module requires students to research into their specialist project area informed by scholarship and industry-based developments. Students will construct advanced original projects using industry-relevant equipment and/or software. Working effectively as part of a group, students will critically self-assess their specialist role and its relationship to other specialist areas. Students will plan and schedule their role by specified deadlines and produce original work intended for a wider audience.
On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
4. Technical and Creative Skills - Execute your role in the group project using industry relevant practices, equipment and software as appropriate.
5. Decision making skills - Apply key ethical and professional standards relevant to your work and review the implications of any relevant industry regulation and recent industry developments.
6. Team work skills: Work effectively as a member of a team to successfully plan and organise a group production. On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
1. Apply subject knowledge and key skills to partake in the creation of an extended piece of creative practice.
2. Evidence the planning and organisation of the project production with relevant subject research, informed by scholarship in film, photography and/or the wider media industries.
3. Critically evaluate your role within the team project and examine the project’s production development.

A group submission should be considered and reworked if the project is impacted for any external reasons for the whole group. The individual written evaluation can also be reworked and resubmitted in this case. However, if this is not possible and an individual was not able to contribute to the group project for a specific reason beyond their control, they must submit an original ‘proof of concept’ for a potential project (evidenced though a Production Pack) and present a written reflection & evaluation that covers their work on the module and evaluates the proposed project.
