This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module builds on students’ previous experiences by asking them to apply their journalism and production skills to specific radio and TV platforms and content. There will also be an introduction to studio facilities and working in a news team to create broadcast news to a daily deadline.
In this module, students will
Learn to identify and reflect on different video and audio formats used in broadcast journalism.
Consider how story choice and production techniques change for different audiences
Build on a range of storytelling techniques used in radio and TV production.
Build on journalism production skills such as recording, filming and editing to create their own pieces of journalism to broadcast industry standards
Develop their knowledge of the use of TV and radio equipment and broadcast studios
Produce broadcast news to a daily deadline, applying editorial, legal and ethical considerations to their stories.
On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
1. Identify and produce news items in different formats for radio and TV to industry standards
2. Apply appropriate recording, editing and storytelling techniques
3. Use their journalism skills to find news stories, applying editorial, legal and ethical considerations

4. Compare and contrast different formats used in broadcast TV and radio news
5. Apply appropriate techniques of broadcast journalism production including recording, filming, interviewing and editing.

Students will be set tasks within their practicals and workshops relating to the skills and understanding they have been taught. Some activities will be completed in their private study time and, in all cases, students will receive formative verbal or written feedback on areas of achievement and improvement.
