This module is a variant of Advanced Topics in Chemistry which is optional for final year integrated masters students in Natural Sciences or joint honours. Discrete topics (each 5 credits) that are of current research/commercial interest are taught and assessed by examination or by coursework.
On completion of the module, students will have an advanced level of understanding of a selection of current topics of chemistry. They will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of different areas simultaneously and be able to explain and solve unseen problems of an advanced nature.
Ultimately, the module will prepare them for research either in academia or industry by providing the students with the core basis of advanced knowledge they will require.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes:
1. Describe and discuss confidently, accurately and in detail, using appropriate terminology, the principles of one or more specialisms within the chemical sciences.
2. Integrate, synthesise and apply a systematic and broad understanding of relevant and state-of-the-art chemical concepts to solve complex/unfamiliar problems.
3. Navigate and utilise the intersections between chemistry and other disciplines to suggest solutions to real problems
