Module summary

This module provides the foundational physics consistent with A-level standard to ensure the basic skills are met to pursue an engineering discipline at degree level.

Objectives

To provide students who have achieved a GCSE or equivalent in physics, the requisite skills and knowledge to solve standard physics and engineering problems using foundational physics principles, at A-level equivalent, focused on specific areas that are of value to an engineering degree.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

1. Have a knowledge and understanding of foundational physics sufficient to translate these principles to engineering principles.

Syllabus

Units, dimensions, vectors, forces, work, energy, oscillatory motion, kinematics, Coulomb's Law, Lorentz Force, ideal gas law, kinetic theory of gases, heat, sound and waves.
