This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module provides the foundational physics consistent with A-level standard to ensure the basic skills are met to pursue an engineering discipline at degree level.
To provide students who have achieved a GCSE or equivalent in physics, the requisite skills and knowledge to solve standard physics and engineering problems using foundational physics principles, at A-level equivalent, focused on specific areas that are of value to an engineering degree.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Have a knowledge and understanding of foundational physics sufficient to translate these principles to engineering principles.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills:
a. Technical skills
b. Problem solving & analytical skills
Units, dimensions, vectors, forces, work, energy, oscillatory motion, kinematics, Coulomb's Law, Lorentz Force, ideal gas law, kinetic theory of gases, heat, sound and waves.
