This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module will support you to apply the skills, experience and knowledge you have gained earlier in your degree to your Capstone Research Project through a series of Skill Units focusing on specific methodologies, techniques and transferable skills. This module will also provide the opportunity to develop and enhance skills and experiences to support the next stage of your career or education.
The aim of this module is to provide the support and training for students to build upon and apply the knowledge, skills and experiences they have developed earlier in their degree programme to a current area of research or enquiry in their discipline area.
There will be a series of Skill Units to provide opportunity for development and practice of different research and enquiry methodologies, including and not limited to: qualitative and quantitative data analysis, systematic review processes, qualitative data collection methods and communication through different modalities and to different audiences.
Throughout this process, students will reflect on their research skills and professional development as they prepare for the next stages of their career or education.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Identify and critically appraise research and information relevant to the selected capstone or MBiol research project.
2. Demonstrated effective planning of an enquiry-based project.
3. Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the health, safety and ethical considerations when undertaking research or enquiry.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
4. Demonstrate engagement with the Skills units and reflect on their abilities, linking these to professional development.
5. Identify and explain how their prior knowledge and skills integrate with the Skills Units to demonstrate ongoing individual development linked with their field of study.
6. Choose and apply appropriate digital tools and techniques, to create written and/or other outputs.
This module supports students in applying the skills, experience, and knowledge gained earlier in their degree to their Capstone Research Project. Students will engage in a series of Skill Units focusing on specific methodologies, techniques, and transferable skills essential for their research and future careers. These can include, but are not limited to: Python coding, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, systematic review processes, and qualitative data collection methods. Students will develop the ability to communicate research findings through various means and to diverse audiences. Continuous reflection on research skills and professional development will be emphasised, preparing students for future career or educational opportunities.
