The module covers definitions of physical activity and recommendations for different populations by national (Chief Medical Office, UK) and Global health bodies (World Health Organisation). Students will examine the use of wearables and technology and consider how to measure and promote physical activity for specific populations throughout the life and health span.
This module aims to cover the concept of physical activity promotion and assessment. This module also investigates how to design and measure the impact of physical activity programmes for specific populations throughout the life and health span.
On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
1. Define the concepts of physical activity and sedentary behaviour and evaluate techniques to measure activity-related parameters.
2. Design, communicate and evaluate interventions to promote physical activity and decrease sedentary behaviour.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Managing knowledge: collecting, selecting, organising and interpreting data, data evaluation and synthesis, use of IT skills.
2. Presentation skills: audio / visual presentation of data.
