This module is not approved as a discovery module
The third year Research Project provides students with the opportunity to become fully engaged with a relevant research discipline. Students on this module will work on a defined research project for an extended period of time allowing them to apply a broad range of skills to a particular problem or question in the biological sciences.
This module provides students with the opportunity to integrate, develop and apply the knowledge and skills gained in earlier years of their programme to a problem related to their specialisation. They will create a defined report, output or outcome which they can use to showcase their knowledge and skills to potential graduate recruiters. This module will bring everything they have learnt together; the opportunity to apply that knowledge and, in so doing, bring reflection, focus and purpose to the whole of their degree experience.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Design, plan and execute a research project to develop knowledge and understanding in a specific scientific field.
2. Gather, generate and critically analyse written information to address a research question.
3. Collate, analyse and present scientific data and research in an appropriate format
4. Effectively communicate the outcomes and outputs of their research project.
Skills Learning Outcomes
5. Discuss, communicate and receive information clearly, accurately, and appropriately with academic members of staff.
6. Take an ethical, safe and sustainable approach to the research project.

Details of the syllabus will be provided on the Minerva organisation (or equivalent) for the module
