BLGY3345 Biology Integrated Research Projects

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to demonstrate the ability to plan, execute and report on project work in writing.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, students will have:
- completed a library based research project;
- prepared and submitted a detailed report, in a scientifically acceptable format.
- developed skills in the appropriate and selective use of library resources, including computer based search tools including online databases such as ISI Web of knowledge, Medline and PubMed;
- the competence to read critically a scientific paper and to identify the key features of the study;
- the competence to interpret data presented in scientific papers and to assess them critically in order to draw appropriate conclusions

Skills outcomes

Project formulation, information collection and analysis.

Syllabus

You will be required to carry out project work library-based project work.

The project will be assessed on the basis of your performance, including:
- time management skills and effort (Process: 10%)
- a written report (90%)

The project report must be submitted by the advertised deadline.

Private study

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

- Regular meetings with supervisor are required.
- Drafts of the report are provided to the supervisor for feedback ahead of formal submission.
