This module is not approved as a discovery module
This field course provides an opportunity for those students registered for biological science degrees to undertake field-based studies. Students will attend a residential field course in a UK location, and will develop skills suitable for field-based careers. The emphasis within the different sub-modules varies, but all include elements of biological identification, hypothesis testing, data collection and interpretation and the written presentation of results.
This module aims to provide students with skills in field-based research.
Objective 1: Provide students with experience of ecological field skills.
Students will experience a range of field data collection methods
Objective 2: Develop data analysis and interpretation skills
Following on from BLGY1307 students will have the opportunity to use data interpretation skills and apply them to a filed-based setting.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Sample and monitor field populations using the appropriate techniques
2. Identify to a certain level the organisms concerned
3. Demonstrate data collection in a field setting
4. Interpret ecological data through analysis and visualisation and report results in an acceptable scientific style
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Combine theories and examples from multiple sources to aid interpretation of complex scientific information.
2. Demonstrate scientific writing skills to communicate ideas to an academic audience.
