This module explores British architecture in the long eighteenth century. Through the use of selected case studies, students will investigate the construction of histories of The Georgian ; the nature of the architectural profession; major town- and country houses, palaces and public buildings; the development of London and spa towns such as Bath, the eighteenth century church; and the impact that women had on some of the major monuments of our architectural heritage.
On completion of this module, students should;
- have a critical awareness of the history of British architecture in the long eighteenth century;
- be able to demonstrate familiarity with major secular and religious monuments in town and country and the historiographical problems associated with the development of the architectural profession.
With critical engagement suitable for a level three student, students should:
- be familiar with the major secular and religious monuments in town and country;
- understand the historiographical problems associated with the development of the architectural profession, including the role of women.
- Verbal and written fluency in constructing a logical and coherent argument
- Participation in group discussions
- Co-ordinatinon and dissemination of a range of historical, contextual and visual information
- Using bibliographies.

180 hours comprised of weekly reading, seminar presentation preparation, researching and writing one essay, researching and writing on critical review.
Oral presentation, participation in class discussion, submission of assessesd Critical Review in week 7.
