BSc (Hons) Audiology programme specification for entry onto level 3 study (typically completion of 120 Level 2 BSc (Hons) Audiology credits).

Module summary

This module enables students to independently explore cutting-edge of future innovations in the field of audiology. It supports learners to identify an innovation of interest, critically appraise the innovation and its implications and communicate their findings, through different approaches.

Objectives

The aim of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to independently explore cutting-edge or future innovations in the areas of audiological science and practice.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module students will be able to:

1. Undertake an in-depth investigation of a cutting edge or future innovation in the field of audiology.
2. Critically appraise the chosen innovation from a range of theoretical perspectives.
3. Critically evaluate and discuss the implications of the chosen innovation for modern/future audiology service provision.

Syllabus

Indicative topics for investigation include:

- Genetic therapy
- Hair cell regeneration
- Use of AI
- Teleaudiology
- Advanced implant techniques

Private study

Private study:

The module aims to support active learning, initiated by the student. Support and direction for learning is provided through 1 to 1 academic supervision and seminar activities. Private study time should be spent searching the literature, reading, developing the learning contract and preparing work for academic supervision and assessment.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Formative feedback will be provided via:

- Review of draft written work (learning contract and magazine article) via 1 to 1 academic supervision sessions.
- Peer and academic supervisor feedback will be provided on students’ formative presentations.

The 2500 word essay will be in the style of an article in a professional magazine (e.g. BSA’s Audacity). The verbal presentation and learning contract are formative assessments.
