Module summary

This module is an optional clinical practice module where students are able to focus their own clinical practice area. The student will undertake a 2 week clinical placement in their chosen field and complete an essay in the form of a critical evaluation. They will complete 2 formative clinical assessment forms appropriate to their focused clinical area, in order to demonstrate practical skills achieved in the area. The student needs to identify that the focus offers new and different learning opportunities to those not encountered elsewhere in the programme such as in areas outside of imaging, different clinical environments, international placements or more specialist areas of practice. Negotiating learning contracts set out achievable aims and are student-led under the guidance of the module manager as part of the programme team. Students are able to look at any healthcare aspect for this module and it is not limited to imaging areas. The student needs to identify that the focus offers new and different learning opportunities to those not encountered elsewhere in the programme such as in areas outside of imaging, different clinical environments, international placements or more specialist areas of practice.

Objectives

The student led optional module gives the student the opportunity to focus their clinical practice on a specific area of diagnostic imaging or healthcare. The student will undertake a 2 week clinical placement in their chosen area.

The student will negotiate the placement area themselves and will be required to undertake 2 clinical assessment forms appropriate to their focused clinical area to demonstrate clinical skills learnt through the placement (though these are evidence of completion of the placement only and not competency-based/directly related to HCPC standards of proficiency).

The student will learn to develop their imaging skills in focused areas of practice.

The module will allow the 2 week placement to be located anywhere in the UK or through linked international placement sites.

Negotiated learning contracts will set out student led achievable aims.
