Standard entry criteria and 240 level 1 and 2 credits for BSc(Hons) Diagnostic Radiography programme
None, amendment of previously validated module.
This module is not approved as a discovery module
This module will give the student an opportunity to explore an area of imaging practice that they have a personal interest in. It will allow them to investigate, in depth, an imaging modality of their choice and the role of that modality in relation to a pathology and patient pathway using a case study approach.
This work-based learning module allows the student to design, negotiate and manage their own study relevant to their work experience, or to explore a new area of appropriate practice. Up to five clinical days are independently negotiated by the student in their chosen clinical imaging area.
At the end of this module the student should be able to:
1. Critically evaluate the application and choice of imaging modality / specialist imaging area in relation to the chosen pathology/pathway
2. Justify the use of specific imaging modalities / specialist imaging areas for a selected case study
3. Explore how the imaging investigation is influenced by, and influences the patient management pathway
4. Evaluate the role of this investigation for a particular case using current research and literature
Independent learning and autonomous practice to take ownership of own learning and areas of interest
Negotiating learning contracts to set out achievable aims and are student-led under the guidance of the module manager as part of the programme team. These learning contracts should allow the learner to focus their learning on a specific imaging modality or patient pathway in a way to identify clear and actionable goals which will add new context to their learning from previous clinical experiences. In particular it will ensure learners evaluate the role of an imaging modality in the patient pathway in a way not covered elsewhere in the curriculum
A patient case study approach to investigate the rationale for the use of a particular imaging modality / specialist imaging area in the course of a patient’s clinical management.
Use of relevant literature will be explored to critically discuss the case study
