Appropriate systematic approaches will be introduced that are relevant in reviewing the anatomy covered in this module. Repeated exposure to a wide range of real clinical ultrasound images/examinations and their associated medical histories will help students to develop deductive reasoning skills and start to develop report writing skills. Projection radiography and cross-sectional imaging appearances will be included where relevant to enable the students to develop their image interpretation skills in complimentary imaging.
The module introduces systematic image appraisal methods applicable to the appearances of normal anatomy and common pathology in obstetric, gynaecological and general medical ultrasound images/examinations. Students will develop deductive reasoning skills by exploring ultrasound imaging appearances relevant to a wide range of patient histories from real clinical cases. This will enable them to develop report writing skills to enable them to compose a provisional report. Projection radiography and cross-sectional imaging appearances will be included where relevant.
At the end of this module the student should be able to:
1. Identify and describe normal anatomy and common pathology on ultrasound images/examinations relevant to obstetric, gynaecological and general medical ultrasound
2. Utilise a systematic approach to image evaluation on normal/abnormal cases for a wide range of obstetric, gynaecological and general medical ultrasound images/examinations
3 Describe how common pathological manifestations are represented on ultrasound images/examination and differentiated from other appearances
4. Use deductive reasoning skills to interpret ultrasound images within the context of patient information using real case examples to write a provisional report

Students will be given directed online learning activity each to help consolidate the sessions/content delivered in that week. This will include the completion of workbooks based around the topics covered.
Students will be expected to undertake pre-reading and complete preparatory activities to contribute to lectures and practical activities.
Private study should be utilised to write up lecture notes and do pre- and post-session reading on the topics covered as well as in preparation for the summative exam
The nature of this module is such that there is direct application to clinical practice. Students are encouraged to assess each ultrasound examination they undertake to extend their knowledge of the anatomy covered in this module. In this way students can identify areas they need to concentrate on and seek additional support.
A formative exam and feedback will be provided to give students the opportunity to understand the format of the exam as well as identify areas requiring for tutorials to address any areas of misconception / misunderstanding. The formative feedback session will be a class discussion of the answers.
Workbook and practical image viewing sessions will focus around the theme of the content within that part of the semester to assess understanding and engagement.

The formative examination (0% of formal assessment) will be held in Week 21. The online timed examination using Gradescope will be conducted remotely online.
