Module summary

This module will train students in how to translate contemporary texts from and into Arabic. It will also acquaint students with the grammatical skills that will enable you to write in a fluent and effective style, and to comprehend Arabic texts. On completion of this module, students will be familiar with the grammar rules as well as the function of Arabic grammar in texts. Students will also acquire the skills to translate different genres of texts from and into Arabic.

Objectives

This module aims to provide students with an an opportunity to analyse in-depth Arabic morphology and syntax in order to improve comprehension, translation and writing skills, by analysing different text genre, topics, and register

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

1- Demonstrate understanding of the rules of Arabic grammar and apply these rules on different texts.
2- Analyse the grammatical structure of different texts.
3- Compose different texts using correct grammatical rule.
4- Interpret and translate between advanced Arabic and English texts.

Skills Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:

5- Communicate effectively, adapting the communication style to different contexts and audiences.
6- Seek out and then combine differing views in order to suggest a solution to a complex problem.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

A copy of a commented marked formative assessment paper will be sent to each individual student with a model answer paper. Students receive regular feedback on class exercises.
