Module summary

This module provides the opportunity to gain consultancy experience within the transport sector working on a real-world problem posed by Leeds City Council or another industry partner. You will enhance your personal and professional skills (technical applied transport skills and project management skills) by being part of a multi-disciplinary project group. Your group will plan and design an aspect of the transport system over an intensive 6 week period and you will be guided in this by experts from industry and our academic researchers.

Objectives

This module will build upon the Shaping Future Transport Systems module so that on completion of this module students will have an increased knowledge and understanding of: project design & management; the integration of various subjects as taught across the Transport masters programmes; the demands of applying technical transport skills to practical situations; the impact of the transport disciplines on society; and the practical transferable skills required of a transport professional.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject: 1. To understand principles of applied transport analysis 2. Integration of transport principles covering the core transport masters programmes 3. Application and demonstration of technical skills relevant to the students programme discipline.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

The overall progress of each project group is monitored by a member of ITS staff who will act as the group supervisor and oversee each step of the project. They will be supported by the module leader who will attend presentations, both formative and assessed.
