This module equips Masters Degree students with the skills and knowledge necessary to apply social analysis in practice and policy in the transport sector in both professional environments and higher academic studies. This module will provide understanding of the basis of qualitative and qantitative methods, and practical understanding of a range of research methods and evaluative techniques using lectures and practical ‘hands-on’ workshops designed to engage and stimulate learning.
This module aims to provide students with critical appreciation of methodological approaches and key evaluative skills in social analysis and the opportunity for the practical application of specific techniques.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Develop an understanding of epistemological issues underlying different methodological approaches and techniques in transport studies;
2. Develop and implement analytical skills for the analysis and evaluation of the social impact of transport policy;
3. Apply techniques for evaluation of transport measures.

6. Technical skills:
6.1 design methodological approaches for the evaluation of transport sectors policies;
6.2 identify the in/correct use of techniques and assess the quality of evaluative techniques in different contexts;
6.3 apply Equality impact assessment and other research techniques such as focus groups or questionnaires for evaluation of transport policy.
