This module is not approved as an Elective
This module presents an overview and the foundations of transport engineering. Semester 2 modules TRAN5241M (Road Geometry & Infrastructure), TRAN5210M (Traffic Management), TRAN5763M (Road Safety) and TRAN5946M (Deterioration & Maintenance of Pavements) build on this module further providing opportunities to specialise in particular areas.
The module aims to familiarise students with the engineering aspects of the design of transport infrastructure.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
LO1: appreciate the principles of engineering design as they apply to transport systems;
LO2: design the road geometry / railway track geometry using appropriate standards;
LO3: appreciate the environmental impacts of transport systems.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
SO1: Designing road/railway geometry
SO2: Designing the layout of public transport facilities
SO3: Academic: reflection
SO4: Academic: critical thinking
SO5: Academic: information searching
SO6: Work-ready: problem solving & analytical skills
