Module summary

The module aims to equip students with the skills to become effective change agents, enabling them to operate successfully in diverse organisational contexts and contribute to sustainability. The module introduces students to tools, techniques, and processes that are key to managing and delivering sustainable outcomes through projects and organisations. Students will choose a particular theme/case study to explore in depth throughout the module, allowing them to tailor the module to a specific area of interest and apply the approach taught in the lectures to a real situation.

Objectives

The objectives of the module are:

- To equip students with tools and techniques to be able to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical contexts and deliver sustainable outcomes.

- To equip students to recognise, value, and work with different disciplines in delivering sustainability.

- To equip students to evaluate the potential of different organisational forms – both profit and non-profit – for delivering sustainable outcomes.

Learning activities combine group and individual work on specific case studies. Students have the chance to tailor their learning to the topics they are most interested in.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

LO1. Understand the full project life cycle and the potential contribution to sustainable development – from project concept to evaluation.
LO2. Apply knowledge from multiple disciplines to analyse the system that surrounds a project.
LO3. Analyse and evaluate the role of different stakeholders in project development and delivery.
LO4. Analyse organisational contexts to position and deliver a project for sustainable outcomes.
LO5. Evaluate the role of change management and innovation techniques to deliver sustainable outcomes.
LO6. Create a project to maximise sustainability outcomes by applying the most appropriate techniques to manage and deliver the project.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Student progress will be principally monitored through the seminars. Students will be split into groups of up to 6 people. Each group will work in depth in a different case study. Students will express preferences for the case studies they wish to work on. The seminars allow for progress monitoring and formative feedback.

The resit for the group work will be an individual report that will include a reflective piece on the group project.
