Module summary

This module provides students with the opportunity to pursue an independent project within philosophy with the support of an appropriate supervisor. The module is typically taken in Semester 2, although students may take it in Semester 1 if they are already enrolled on PHIL5911M Independent Study in Semester 1.

Objectives

To produce an independent piece of work on a selected topic within the field of philosophy. This work can take the form of an essay, a PhD proposal, or a literature survey. The student should show a good grasp of the chosen field and relevant important literature.

Learning outcomes

Detailed understanding of the relevant area of philosophy, depending on the topic of the independent study.

Skills outcomes

The module will develop skills in independent research. Some skills will depend upon the student’s choice of topic.
