The module provides a foundation for exploring enterprise, innovation and sustainability. Key issues covered include: - Enterprise, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs. - Sustainable Development Goals and the potential for entrepreneurship and innovation to address them. - Ideas and opportunities, and creative techniques for generating business ideas. - Innovation and invention. Sources/ drivers of innovation, the 10 types of innovation, innovation strategies, and implementing change and overcoming barriers to innovation. - Feasibility analysis, including industry and market feasibility analysis, financial feasibility analysis and entrepreneur feasibility analysis. - Why business models matter. Business Model Canvas in full detail. Lean start-up. Case examples. Through studying the module, students will appreciate the complexities associated with entrepreneurship and be able to discuss and debate these complexities in an informed and critical manner.
This module provides a foundation for exploring principle themes around entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, within the context of sustainable development. Through studying the module, students will have the opportunity to examine various debates around entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship and develop the skills necessary to recognise and exploit various business opportunities.
Throughout the module students will:
- Be introduced to the key theoretical perspectives, frameworks and models relating to entrepreneurship.
- Have the opportunity to investigate the issues of creativity and innovation within the context of sustainable development.
- Engage with a variety of activities and materials which will allow students to assess the feasibility of a business.
- Be able to apply relevant models and frameworks when developing a business or engaging in entrepreneurial activities within a conventional business setting and in relation to sustainable development.
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
1. Critically assess key factors and market data related to the feasibility of a business opportunity.
2. Generate business ideas that enhance sustainable development and address some of the sustainable development goals.
3. Evaluate the creativity and innovativeness of various ideas from a theoretically informed perspective.
4. Appraise, debate and communicate the complex relationships involved in developing business models that promote sustainable development.

Independent online learning refers to non-facilitated directed learning. Students will work through bespoke interactive learning resources and reflective activities in the VLE.
Private study refers to directed reading and self-directed research in support of learning activities and discussions, as well as in preparation for assessments.
- The module’s digital learning materials provide regular opportunities for participants to check their understanding and gain feedback (e.g., case studies with short answer questions and automated feedback, MCQs with detailed feedback on correct/incorrect answers).
- The individual unit webinars and discussion forums provide opportunities for formative feedback from peers and tutors.
- The completion of the 3000 word summative assignment will facilitate student monitoring.
