This module is not approved as an Elective
This module brings together the theoretical and practical elements of the entire programme as students design, conduct and write their dissertations. This provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and make an original contribution to the discipline. Through this module, students will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to create a sustained, well-structured, and methodical piece of independent research. Please note this is an optional module and runs subject to enrolments. If a low number of students choose this module, then the module may not run and you may be asked to choose another module.
This module aims to equip students with a range of generic and subject-specific research skills necessary to conduct and write up their own research at taught postgraduate level. Through a combination of lectures, practical seminars, and supervision meetings, students will gain experience in conducting research projects of an academic nature in order to prepare them to undertake further study at doctoral level or for research in a professional environment.
On successful completion of the module, you will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Design a research question relevant to the field of Intercultural Studies
2. Conduct a research project that uses suitable methodologies
3. Connect your research to relevant theoretical concepts in the field
4. Communicate research findings and construct a sustained, coherent and convincing argument
On successful completion of the module you will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
5. Design and manage a project independently, set targets and priorities, work under pressure, and work towards a goal
6. Take a logical approach to solving problems, understand and interpret research data
7. Generate new ideas and build on existing ones
Details of the syllabus will be provided on the Minerva organisation (or equivalent) for the module

They can submit a draft chapter (1000 words) to their supervisor for feedback. They will also receive verbal feedback in their individual supervision meetings. The feedback from both the assessed research proposal and the annotated bibliography will help the students to develop their work and support their research.
