Module summary

‘Localisation’ refers to the adaptation of content such as websites, software, and marketing material for different cultural and linguistic contexts. Translators are ideally placed to work in the localisation field because it shares the same principles as translation and requires many of the same skills. This module acquaints students with the contexts in which localisation is carried out and the general principles of localisation practice as well as industry workflows and relevant project management skills.

Objectives

The module aims to help students develop understanding of the principles and different types of localisation. It prepares students with analytical skills to consider meaning-making in multimodal texts such as websites, corporate videos and video games.
