The module will focus on various concepts and theories of innovation including, knowledge transfer, open innovation, technology sourcing, globalization of innovation, entrance strategies and appropriation. These will help you to analyse and explain how innovation, knowledge-transfer and internationalization strategies enable multinational corporations to enhance their competitiveness and performance in the global economy.
This module aims to help students develop the skills required to analyse and explain how innovation, knowledge-transfer and internationalization strategies enable multinational corporations to enhance their competitiveness and performance in the global economy.
On successful completion of this module students will be able to critically evaluate:
- Theories of innovation and technology transfer
- Concepts of competitive advantage in the global economy
- Debates on the internationalization of innovative activities (e.g. global R&D) and the management of intellectual capital.
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
a) Critically analyse the multifaceted benefits and problems arising from the globalization of innovation networks
b) Categorize which international-diversification and product-diversification strategies are preferable in enhancing firm competitiveness and corporate performance
c) Construct strategic plans that may enable a multinational corporation to benefit from the technological developments and scientific knowledge of its competitors
d) Critically analyse the strategic and economic importance of managing and protecting intellectual capital for organisational performance in the global economy
d) Evaluate management practices that allow multinational corporations to transfer knowledge and outsource technologies more effectively

- Critically construct and communicate plans that can help organizations to benefit from innovations and external knowledge resources

- Construct and support management practices that have the potential to influence the innovativeness and performance of an organization
- Analyse the effectiveness of national and international intellectual property regimes and advise on their strategic implications.
