Students undertaking the module select a subject of interest and relevance to their clinical practice and related to at least 1 of the pillars of advanced practice. students taking the programme as part of the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Apprenticeship must link the learning contract outcomes to the relevant competencies in the MSc ACP apprenticeship standard With support from a named academic supervisor, the overall aim and a minimum of three overall learning objectives will be identified and a learning contract developed to achieve the objectives. Students will be required to plan and engage in a number of structured learning events to gain knowledge and understanding of their chosen subject. Examples of structured learning events include: study days, conferences, negotiated placements with expert practitioners, shadowing experts, meetings with experts, in the field and service users, library study. Planning and detail of the structured learning events will be recorded in the learning contract
The module allows practitioners, in health and social care disciplines to select a subject of relevance to their practice and pursue a self-directed programme of study, through use of a learning contract.
1. Critically evaluate personal learning needs in relation to a defined area of professional practice with reference to one or more of the pillars of advanced practice.
2. Organise a programme of self-directed learning to gain an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the chosen specialist subject.
3. Critically analyse a relevant body of literature.
4. Produce an analytical and reflective account of knowledge gained through independent study.
The module is self directed and will have only two taught sessions

Private study and independent learning will be spent completing structured learning events and library study in order to meet the objectives set by the students in the learning contract.
Students will be allocated a named academic supervisor and will have regular meetings to discuss progress, ensure that they are on track to complete their learning objectives and receive feedback on written work.
The learning contract must be completed and signed off by the academic supervisor no later than week four of the module.
Students will be offered an opportunity to receive feedback on a draft of their assignment.
