This module is not approved as an Elective
- To introduce students to a variety of qualitative research methods, and provide them with an experience of designing a viable research project.
- To equip students to critically evaluate and productively make use of published qualitative research reports in the field of systemic family therapy.
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- show the connections between modernist, constructivist and constructionist paradigms and ways of formulating research methodologies;
- evaluate the claims made in specific studies of therapeutic outcome;
- demonstrate the understanding necessary to evaluate different qualitative approaches to research;
- apply a range of appropriate techniques to analyse qualitative data and report the results appropriately;
- design a viable research study within a constructionist theoretical framework and show how the research meets ethical criteria and will potentially contribute to improving systemic practice.
