Module summary

By completing this module, you will obtain an in-depth critical understanding of the many factors that influence professional development of the self and the field as well as of developing the knowledge, skills and attributes to contribute to the field through scholarship.

Objectives

In this module you will develop an understanding of factors influencing professional development of the self and the field and an understanding of approaches to professional development that enhances practitioner agency through a focus on expertise, knowledge and practices.

This module also focuses on practitioner scholarship. We will examine the concept of scholarship and related concepts, such as practitioner research. We will also examine the purposes of scholarship, ways of conducting scholarship and of contributing to the field.

We will analyse the relationship between scholarship and student education, how scholarship informs and is informed by teaching materials, pedagogy, syllabus and assessment.

2. demonstrate an understanding of contributions to the field that practitioners can make.
3. analyse current issues in professional development and scholarship within the field of EAP.
