With the ongoing evolution of AI, future designers need to be equipped with the skills required to tackle various design challenges. This module covers topics on technological advancements in design and user experience to address diverse industrial needs. It introduces students to defining and using the appropriate emerging design methods/practices, design ethics, recommendations, and guidelines for specific settings and situations. Please note this is an optional module and runs subject to enrolments. If a low number of students choose this module, then the module may not run and you may be asked to choose another module.
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the fundamental principles of AI in design, with the following objectives:
· Understand theoretical and practical perspectives on human-AI interaction and user experience.
· Explore the application of AI in design thinking process to address user needs.
· Examine the ethical and regulatory challenges involved in adapting AI within a professional context.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Analyse and interpret current design challenges related to human-experience in AI.
2. Assess and critically analyse the literature related to applications of AI in Design and plan appropriate research methods accordingly.
3. Effectively identify and use digital ethical consideration when applying AI in design projects.
4. Design and develop professional design solutions implementing AI and considering human-AI interaction in response to a brief.
