DESN5182M Experiential Practice

This module will introduce students to design principles for user experience, user interface, and interaction design, covering emerging technologies and platforms such as embedded computing, virtual reality and augmented reality. Students will engage in lectures, tutorials as well as individual and collaborative practical sessions. They will also conceptualise and prototype solutions, in a hands-on approach, to a variety of scenarios across different sectors, such as entertainment, healthcare, and science, while keep a recording of their rationale and creative process.
This module gives students the opportunity to:
1- Demonstrate familiarity with design principles and theoretical perspectives on emerging digital and interactive platforms.
2- Engage critically with a diverse range of digitally design artifacts, including mobile applications, embedded computing, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality experiences, in a variety of contexts.
3- Engage in reflective creative practice, generating concepts and prototypes, informed by first-hand experiences and underlying theories.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Develop prototypes and other design outcomes to a professional standard.
2. Evaluate opportunities for the application of digital technologies.
3. Propose creative solutions that take design principles into consideration.

Verbal and formative feedback from the course team is delivered through weekly practical sessions and three tutorial sessions. Three non-assessed presentations of students work in progress will provide opportunities for more detailed feedback.
